Stata 12 Mp License

Stata/MP, Stata/SE, and Stata/BE all run on any machine, but Stata/MP runs faster. You can purchase a Stata/MP license for up to the number of cores on your machine (maximum is 64). For example, if your machine has eight cores, you can purchase a Stata/MP license for eight cores, four cores, or two cores.

Stata 12 Mp License

UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) has licensed Stata/SE for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. It is offered to all UMass Amherst faculty and staff. Students are not eligible to get Stata under this site license. The software may be used only for academic purposes, and installation on personally-owned equipment is not permitted under the terms of the license.

Site licensed software requires an annual renewal in order to continue to work. You may renew your license as long as you remain faculty or staff at the Amherst campus. Note: Your annual renewal of this site license will provide you with the latest release of Stata at no additional cost.

UMass IT also has a limited number or Stata/MP licenses for 2-core, 4-core, and 8-core machines. These licenses are based on concurrent use. If you install the software on a server you must also install third-party software to insure that the number of concurrent users does not exceed your licensed number.

I will not copy or permit copying or access to the Software by any third party. For Stata/SE, I will not install the software on more machines than the number of licenses for which I have registered; For Stata/MP, I will not permit more concurrent users than the number for which I have registered.

UMass IT provides technical support for installation and license renewal only. Contact the Help Center at (413) 545-TECH (545-8324) or it@umass.edu. You must have your unique authorization code in order to get help.

MP licenses can be used on both 32 and 64 bit computers, but they only go faster if your computer has at least the same number of processors as your license, i.e., MP2 will work more efficiently than a SE only if the computer has at least 2 processors. As you can see from the following graph, MP-licenses are considerably faster than SE-licenses.

If you cannot find the SetupStata17 file, you will need to reinstall from your DVD or visit download.stata.com to download a new copy. (If the credentials you were supplied when you originally downloaded Stata are no longer valid, contact StataCorp for availability.)

Click on Finder in the Dock. In the search field, enter Stata17.dmg. If you cannot find the Stata17.dmg file, you will need to visit download.stata.com to download a new copy. (If the credentials you were supplied when you originally downloaded Stata are no longer valid, contact StataCorp for availability.)

  • Confirm the edition you check matches the edition on your License and Activation Key. Click on Continue.

During installation of the new edition, Stata's license file, stata.lic, will be automatically renamed stata.lic.old.

  • Change to the directory where Stata is installed; this is probably either /usr/local/stata17 or /usr/local/stata. In this directory, you will see a file named "stata.lic". As superuser, rename this file to "stata.lic.bak". Then, re-initialize Stata's license:

If you purchased a Stata/SE license within 3 months of the expiration date, then your purchase includes a renewal license that may be used to extend the expiration date of your software until July 23, 2020. Renewal authorization codes/installers will be emailed to anyone who purchased Stata/SE within this grace period.

STATA comprises a complete software package, offering statistical tools for data analysis, data management and graphics. On the local HPC System we offer a multiprocessor variant of STATA/MP 13, licensed for up to 12 cores. The license allows up to 5 users to work with STATA at the same time.STATA/MP uses the paradigm of symmetric multiprocessing (SMP)to benefit from the parallel capabilities offered by many modern computers and HPC systems to speed up computations.

On the local HPC system, the concept of slots is used over "cores", and hence, the title of this subsection refers to the "Multi-slot" variant of using STATA.So as to benefit from the parallel capabilities offered by many modern computers and HPC systems and to speed up computations, STATA/MP uses the paradigm of symmetric multiprocessing (SMP). A performance report for a multitude of commands implemented in the STATA software package, highlighting the benefit of multiprocessing, can be found here (PDF-viewer required!). As pointed out above, the HPC system offers STATA/MP 13, licensed for up to 12 cores.

Note that in comparison to the single-slot submission script listed in the preceding subsection, you need to add the line "#SBATCH --cpus-per-task=NUMBER_OF_CPUS" (as an example we are using 6 cpus per task, you can specify up to a maximum of 12 cpus). You will also need to add "-mp" to the stata-command.

There are two licenses for Stata/SE that have been made available on Viper. In order to ensure correct license usage, it is important to request a license as detailed in the usage examples below. If no licenses are available, a job will be held pending until a license becomes available, with squeue showing a pend reason of (Licenses):

The College's license for Stata, which is available on the PCs in public computer labs and on VLab1 is a student learning lab license. This means that you can use it in class for assignments as a teacher or a student, but you cannot use it for research. Prof+ Plan licenses and discounts extend to all faculty and staff at participating universities. Setting up a Stata Prof+ Plan at your university is easy. There are no contracts to sign and no minimum purchase requirements. View our participating institutions and purchase online, or inquire about a Prof+ Plan for your university. 2ff7e9595c
